Welcome to Designs By The Public!
Chips make everything work: phones, robots, laptops, drones, washers, toothbrushes, cars, coffee machines, lamps, 3D printers, MRI machines, radars, airplanes, and traffic lights - to name a few.
Do you know that designing chips is fun?
Of course you don't have to believe us, you can try it yourself, whether you are 8 or 108 years old, or any age inbetween - and we will help you do just that!
For beginners of 8 years and up, we provide snapcircuit kits, measurement equipment and instructions through libraries, schools and this website, which allow you to build and experiment with simple electronic circuits. You can extend this with sensors, microprocessors and software using the Joy-It learning center that you can borrow from the same sources.
But you can also experience the excitement of designing chips through our (free) computer game, or even use our instructions and software downloads to design an actual chip and participate in our competition for the opportunity to have your chip fabricated and returned to you free of charge!
On this website you will find everything you need:
- Videos and documents with explaining how to design an IC.
- A list of places where you can borrow boxes with experiment kits and measurement equipment so you can build electronic circuits at home.
- A computer game that will allow you to design a simple IC.
- A complete set of design tools and libraries to design a complex IC.
- Information for submitting your designs for the IC design contest.
All items come at different levels and are suitable for people from 8 years to 108 years old - and of course free of charge, compliments of Eindhoven University of Technology and the Dutch Research Council!
